Gaining
part 3 of my track journey
If you have been around me in the last 4 months, surely you would have heard me say at some point in our interactions how much quitting soccer has impacted my life. This may sound harsh, but it probably was something along the lines of, quitting the sport that I have known for my whole life has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not to be dramatic or anything, as some of my friends would say. While yes, in many ways soccer was what drained me and did not bring me joy, more importantly why this decision impacted me so, was because of how much I gained in the process of loss.
I have a fear inside of me that centers around the concern for losing what I have already obtained.
A fear of losing something that I have had for so long, and that came in the form of a sport that I felt defined my personality. This sport seemed more than just the physical activity, and I didn’t know how to separate this from the rest of my existence. So, to cope with the loss of one sport, I knew I needed to join another. For the longest time I had wanted to test out my sprinting skills, as I already knew I could run on the XC course, so full send into track it was-and oh what a joy I found.
